Rigorous intellectual inquiry and exploration are core tenets of a Swarthmore education. With over 40 programs of study and the opportunity for enterprising students to design their own major, the school’s curriculum is far more extensive than that of most other liberal arts colleges of its size. The school holds students to high standards yet offers intense support on all fronts. Originality, self-direction, and risk-taking are all the marks of Swarthmore alumni. Swarthmore is a member of the Quaker consortium, giving it close connections to Haverford College, Bryn Mawr College, and the University of Pennsylvania. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend classes or clubs at multiple institutions. An additional honors program exists for the most academically curious and socially active students.
